TEACHER SARA

Hello!

My name is Sara and I am a Primary school teacher (English specialist teacher). I was born in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) a long time ago :)

I have worked in different schools in Tenerife and London (Saint Marks CoE, C.P.E.I.P.S. Luther King, C.P.E.I.P.S. Acaymo, C.E.I.P. Aregume... and I consider myself a very hard working teacher because I think children should live these early learning stages (Primary) of a very special way. Children don't like theory, they absolutely love practice... we can make a mix of it.

We should let kids to be kids, in all of the ways possible.  The reason is simple: the funnier the learning the easier it is. I do my best to focus my lessons making sure each one of the students can go home telling something new... that's my point, because when they do that is that something hidden and very fascinating is going through their heads. Knowledge achieved! We must think.

How do I do it?

A bit of psychology: Linked students theory (by Teacher Sara)

1st. Speak.

ts

Kids must speak in front of the class, they must give out their own opinion and they must be respected by the audience.

ts

2nd. Be heard.

ts

Kids must be heard in class, not only by the students but also by the teacher. Teachers should make questions and when that happens, there grows an invisible link between the student and the teacher.  It doesn't matter if the student asks about frogs or aliens, that's part of the invisible link the teacher must create with the student, and it can happen anytime. Once that link is created it will be hard to break it down... these students always give their most in class.  The stronger the link the better: that's purely emotional.

ts

3rd. Work out self concept.

ts

After we make sure these two steps are fine, we realise we have worked out on his/her self concept, which is one of the most important steps in order to go throughout the years... not only as students but also as human beings, to be part of a society that is becoming more and more mechanical everytime. Self concept must be worked throughout the academic year and it is linked to self-esteem.

ts

4th. Work out on their self-esteem.

ts

That's easy if teacher goes through the learning content; basically the student must feel he/she is great in front of the audience and the teacher is in charge of that.
ts

5th. Ambience.

ts

It is proved that an organised classroom has  some possitive psychologycal aspects. The more organised we find the classroom the more comfortable sensation we have. The more organised the better they work.
ts

6th. Creativity.

ts

A group of class can be organised if all of them feel they are in charge of doing something important for the class itself.  It can be anything, a kid can be in charge of closing the door or can be in charge of wiping off the whiteboard.  When that happens, he/she considers himself/herself a very important part of the group of class so he/she feels responsible for the very first time.  If he/doesn't do it, then something is going to be wrong, that's the reason so his/her effort is maximum.

ts

7th. Motivation.

ts

If the teacher can motivate students the group of class will be very nice to deal with.  The reason is that students feel they are going to enjoy an activity and they do it in group, base group or big group, it doesn't matter as long as they are focused on the lesson.  Motivation can be increased if the teacher acts trying to get their attention: play different characters when explaining, do unexpected moves or change of voice... kids feel motivated becasuse they find it different from expected.  Expected attitudes are boring and children are in need of something up to date. Don't be boring.

ts

8th. Promises.

ts

Sometimes teachers say, say, and say but then they forget what they promise or just do nothing about it.  Promises are meant to be kept.  If we say, as teachers, we may bring an animal to class, we should forget when we say "we may", students just need to hear we will.

ts

9th. Rewards.

ts

They are a must.  Children not only should be rewarded by compliments but also by physical and touchable items just like stickers, or feeling different kind of experiences in class just like five minutes of doing what they want in class (respecting the rest of the class).

ts

10th. Love & care.

ts

Sometimes we find in class children who are in lack of care, some of them feel the teacher is very important because they feel that kind of feeling they need.  In that sense it's quite emotional.  We should give our support to children. That would mean a lot to them if we not only make him/her feel they are notorious but also loved through a smile of complicity.

For this reason, the use of this blog...
ts

My blog will be entirely related to teaching content. I will introduce my students content related to what I teach in class, specially English and Natural Science so they can keep learning through my blog.

I decided to make this blog so my students can recheck one more time what we study in the classroom.  Thanks to my blog, students can learn as well from their own homes and they can check activities whenever they want.

Internet has increased so many posibilities for all kind of human beings, that we have to take it into account and get the most out of it by using it as one of the best resources nowadays that we have for learning languages.

I just hope whoever reads this blog, enjoy it as much as I do when building it up and feel on cloud nine (happy), so let's go for it!

Dedicated to my students, be happy, enjoy, laugh and learn for life!

Sincerely yours,
Teacher Sara
